Site-specific sculptures

Below are examples of work that have been commissioned for specific sites, such as the Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot, Liverpool, for a housing development, and for a sculpture garden as part ofthe Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair 2023.

Shakespeare sculptures

This series of sculptures was commissioned to mark the opening of the Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot, Liverpool. The initial approach was to create a series of animal sculptures that each represented an ingredient used in the Witches’ Chant in Macbeth. These were all fabricated in stainless steel then installed in various locations in Prescot town centre to form a sculpture trail. The popularity of these sculptures led to there being further commissions for inside the Playhouse, including a raven and a depiction of Titania from “Midsummer Night’s Dream” installed on the exterior wall of the theatre. This commission ultimately consisted of 19 individual sculptures.

Larkspur

This sculpture, entitled “Larkspur” depicts three columns of overlapping flowers. It was commissioned by Stonewater Construction Ltd. as a landmark sculpture to mark the site of a new housing development on Dunstarn Lane in Adel near Leeds. It commemorates a famous collection of Delphiniums or Larkspur that used to stand on the site. The sculpture is around 8ft tall, it was constructed by welding layers of hand-formed mild steel flowers onto upright sections of steel tube. It was then galvanised for durability before being installed.

Sculpture garden

My installation “Vice Garden” is a display featuring many of his contemporary sculptures. The items in the garden represent vices, weaknesses and obsessions experienced by people in modern life. It was created to be exhibited at the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair 2023.
